Spiramycin is one of the macrolide antibiotics, which is produced by oxytocin. The antibacterial spectrum of spiramycin is similar to that of erythromycin. Its antibacterial activity in vitro is weaker than erythromycin, but its clinical effect is better than erythromycin. Spiramycin still has good antibacterial activity against erythromycin and penicillin resistant strains such as Staphylococcus aureus. It is easily absorbed by oral administration and has low toxicity. It can be used to treat various infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Escherichia coli.
