Brief Introduction
Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is a kind of glycosaminoglycans covalently linked to proteins to form proteoglycans. Chondroitin sulfate is widely distributed in the extracellular matrix and cell surface of animal tissues. The sugar chain is polymerized by alternating glucuronic acid and N-acetylgalactosamine, and connected to the serine residue of core protein through a sugar like link region.
Although the main chain structure of polysaccharide is not complex, it shows a high degree of heterogeneity in terms of the degree of sulfation, sulfate group and the distribution of the two differences to the re chain of isouronic acid. The fine structure of chondroitin sulfate determines the functional specificity and interaction with a variety of protein molecules.
