Brief Introduction
Neuraminic acid is the aldol condensation product of Pyruvic acid and N-acetylamino Mannose. In nature, they exist in the form of acylation rather than free form. They are collectively called Sialic acid. It is an important part of the sugar chain of glycoprotein and Ganglioside on animal cell membrane.
