Nitrocellulose is mainly used in the plastic industry to manufacture cultural and educational articles, such as table tennis, triangle plates, pens, glasses frames, toys, umbrella handles and tool handles in daily necessities. Nitrocellulose can also be used as fiber, adhesive, coating and sheet based raw materials, and explosives can be produced with high nitrogen content (>13%).

Hexogen, a kind of high-energy explosive with the scientific name of cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, was originally intended to be used in medicine, but was later developed as an explosive because of its good explosive properties. With good detonation sensitivity and easy initiation, it is an extremely comprehensive explosive. In addition, it is also used as rat poison. In 1899, Germany first described the manufacture of Hexogen in its published patent. At that time, RDX was not proposed as an explosive but recommended as a medical drug. Later, it was proposed in the published patent to manufacture smokeless propellant.
