Brief Introduction
White granules or crystalline powder. Relative density 6.47. melting point (decomposition). Decomposes and turns yellow when exposed to heat, then turns brown, but becomes white again after cooling. Decomposes when exposed to strong heat. Becomes monohydrate in a small amount of water, but decomposes into sulphuric acid and alkali salts in a large amount of water, especially when heated. Soluble in hydrochloric acid, hot dilute acid and concentrated sodium chloride solution. Insoluble in acetone and ammonia.
