Rhammnolipids are a type of biosurfactant with metabolic properties produced by Pseudomonas or Burkholderia. They are currently the most extensively studied and widely used biosurfactants. It combines good chemical and biological properties, has oil and water amphiphilicity, can reduce water surface tension, and can be used as a wetting agent, emulsifier, and foaming agent. This biosurfactant can be used under extreme conditions of temperature, pH, and salinity, and is non-toxic and biodegradable.
