In 1991, Mishima and others first discovered AGS and reported for the first time that AGS was cultured by continuous aerobic upflow sludge blanket (AUSB). From this research result, people began the research process of AGS granulation. The research on AGS by domestic scholars began in 1995 and lags behind the research abroad.
