Cationic Starch
Brief Introduction
Cationic starch belongs to chemically modified starch, which is prepared by the reaction of cationic etherifying agent with starch under alkaline conditions. It is a starch ether derivative containing amino group and positive charge on nitrogen molecule produced by etherification reaction between various organic amine compounds containing halogen group or epoxy group and hydroxyl group in starch molecule. Cationic starch mainly includes tertiary amine salts and quaternary ammonium salts. Its raw materials are widely distributed in nature, such as corn, potato, cassava and wheat. Because cationic starch has positive charge and is easy to combine with negatively charged fine fibers, it has many characteristics that raw starch does not have, such as paste stability, water solubility, film-forming, transparency and so on, which makes cationic starch have great uses. In addition, cationic starch has the characteristics of low gelatinization temperature, easy dispersion, high viscosity and good thermal stability.
