Stability related:

1. Colorless liquid with an ammonia odor and low toxicity. It is miscible with water and soluble in most organic solvents such as ether and acetone. It can dissolve most organic and inorganic compounds, polar gases, natural and synthetic polymer compounds.

2. Chemical properties: relatively stable in neutral solutions. After 8 hours in a 4% sodium hydroxide solution, 50% to 70% undergo hydrolysis. Hydrolysis gradually occurs in concentrated hydrochloric acid to produce 4-methylaminobutyric acid CH3NH (CH2) 3COOH. Due to the reaction of carbonyl groups, ketals or thiopyrrolidone can be generated

3. In the presence of an alkali catalyst, it reacts with olefins and undergoes alkylation reaction at the third position. N-methylpyrrolidone is weakly alkaline and can generate hydrochloride salts. Forming adducts with heavy metal salts, such as heating nickel bromide to 150 ℃ to generate NiBr2 (C5H9ON) 3, with a melting point of 105 ℃.

It is also a solvent in the production of pesticides, engineering plastics, coatings, synthetic fibers, integrated circuits, and other industries. It can also be used as industrial detergents, dispersants, dyeing agents, lubricating oil antifreeze, and so on. This product has low toxicity, with an oral LD50 of 7ml/kg in rats.
