Castor Oil
CAS:8001-79-4
Molecular formula:C57H104O9
Molecular weight:933.43000
Appearance:Clear almost colorless or slightly yellow. Viscous Hygroscopic Liquid
Synopsis:Castor oil is the fatty oil extracted from the seeds of castor, a plant of the genus ricinus in the family Euphorbiaceae. It is a clear viscous liquid almost colorless or slightly yellow at room temperature, slightly smelly, light and then slightly pungent. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, benzene and carbon disulfide, freely mixed with absolute ethanol, ether, chloroform or glacial acetic acid, but insoluble in mineral oil. The relative density is 0.956 ~ 0.969 (25 ℃), the refractive index is 1.478 ~ 1.480, the acid value is < = 2.0, the saponification value is 176 ~ 186, and the iodine value is 82 ~ 90. Castor oil is mainly a glyceride of higher fatty acids composed of castor alkyd (12-hydroxyoctadecane-9-enoic acid) and oleic acid. R1, R2 and R3 in the molecule can be the same or different, including 80% ~ 88% castor alkyd, 3% ~ 9% oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid, Dihydroxystearic acid, glycerol ester is composed of 68.2% tririci nolein, 28.0% di RICINOLEIN, 2.9% monoricinolein and 0.9% non RICINOLEIN. Ash contains a large amount of calcium, iron and silicon, as well as inorganic elements such as aluminum, copper and magnesium and a small amount of manganese, titanium, nickel and zinc.
