Chemical intermediates: n-butyric acid, as an important chemical intermediate, is widely used in the manufacturing of esters, butyl esters, plasticizers, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides.

Solvent: n-butyric acid can be used as a solvent in various chemical reactions and industrial production, such as in the manufacturing of resins, coatings, inks, rubber, and plastics.

Food additive: n-butyric acid is considered a safe food additive used to enhance the acidity and taste of food, such as in the production of chewing gum, candy, and beverages.

Spices: n-butyric acid and other acids can be used to make spices, such as essence of fruits, berries and preserves.

N-butyric acid is used to determine the critical temperature and surface tension of fat dissolution, and to eliminate the influence of iron in the electrolytic determination of copper.

N-butyric acid is used as a feed preservative, instrument additive, electrolyte balancer, flame retardant, mold inhibitor, extractant, decalcifier, and leather deliming agent.
