Appearance Grey blue or grey green solid or powder, which decomposes easily by heat, 400 C starts to decompose into chromium trioxide and 500 C completely decomposes into chromium oxide green. Gum when precipitated in aqueous solution. Insoluble in water and acid when it was initially precipitated, but left so long.
