PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Benzoic acid is usually used as a drug or preservative, and has the effect of inhibiting the growth of fungi, bacteria and molds. When used as medicine, it is usually applied on the skin to treat tinea skin diseases. Used in synthetic fiber, resin, coating, rubber, tobacco industry. At first, benzoic acid was prepared by retorting benzoin gum or hydrolyzing in alkaline water, or hydrolyzed by hippuric acid. In industry, benzoic acid is prepared by oxidation of toluene with air in the presence of cobalt and manganese catalysts, or by hydrolysis and decarboxylation of phthalic anhydride. Benzoic acid and its sodium salt can be used as antibacterial agents for latex, toothpaste, jam or other food, and also as mordant for dyeing and printing
