Uses
Food and Beverage Preservative: Sodium benzoate(E211) provides an effective combination of antimicrobial action, low cost and safety. So Sodium benzoic(E211) is widely used in beverages, soft drinks, fruit juices, fruit preserves, jams, pie fillings, pickles, margarine, processed meat and fish.
Mold Inhibitor: In the tobacco industry, sodium benzoate is used to prevent mold growth on chewing and smoking tobacco.
Corrosion Inhibitor: As a corrosion inhibitor, sodium benzoate is used to prevent rust and corrosion on engine parts, bearings, radiator systems and in emulsion paints, cutting oils, and impregnated wrap papers. It is also used in automotive engine coolants.
Excipient: Sodium benzoate is well-known and widely used excipient for pharmaceutical preparations, toiletries and cosmetics such as toothpaste, powders, shampoos, syrups and glue.
Nucleating Agent: Sodium benzoate is used as a nucleating agent to formulate plastics, such as polypropylene, to improve strength and clarity.
