Uses
In the field of the rubber: Impregnation of rayon and polyamide fibrous tyre cord with resorcinol formaldehyde resin (RF resin) can increase the adhesion between the tyre cord and the rubber in tire, sebific duct, gummed tape.RF resin can be cured at room temperature and in neutral conditions without being eroded by water and will not cause the decomposition of the bonded material. Adding resorcinol, hexamethylenetetramine, and silica to the rubber compound can improve the reinforcing effect of short fiber in the rubber matrix.
In the field of dyes: Resorcinol can be used to produce dyes. For example, eosin is an important triphenylmethane dye that is dyed bright red and is mainly used to dye silk. It is prepared by CO heating resorcinol and phthalic anhydride in the presence of zinc chloride or concentrated sulfuric acid, first preparing the intermediate fluorescent yellow, and then tetrabrominating. Eosin is often used to make red ink and can also be used as a dye for microscopic examination of biological materials.
In the pharmaceutical industry: Resorcinol has the functions of antisepsis, disinfection, sterilization, fungicide, astringent, antipruritic and cutin promotion.
