Uses
Chemical raw materials: Isopropanol is also used in the production of acetone, isopropyl ester, isopropylamine (a raw material for atrazine), diisopropyl ether, isopropyl acetate, and thymol. Isopropanol is also used to produce fish meal feed concentrates. It is the first chemical product made from petroleum raw materials in the history of petrochemical development.
Food industry: Isopropanol can be used as a seasoning for food. Used for processing sugar beets, candies, nutritional supplements, hops extract, lemon oil, spice oleoresin, yeast, etc.
In the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries: Isopropyl alcohol is used to produce scrubs, hand lotion and body lotion, preservatives and pharmaceutical reddeniers. Isopropanol is also used to produce fish meal feed concentrates. It is the first chemical product made from petroleum raw materials in the history of petrochemical development.
Solvent: Isopropanol can be used as an antifreeze, cleaning agent, additive for blended gasoline, dispersant for pigment production, fixing agent for printing and dyeing industry, antifogging agent for glass and transparent plastics, deicing agent for fuel pipelines, solvent for oil and colloids, etc. IPA can also be used as a solvent for flexible, lithographic, and lithographic printing. Isopropanol is also often included in ink. Isopropanol is also an important solvent for laboratory dilution and extraction. Low quality isopropanol is used as automotive fuel. In circuit board manufacturing, 2-propanol is used as a cleaning agent and to enhance the conductivity of PCB holes. In addition, isopropanol is also used in other electronic devices, including cleaning laser heads for optical disk cartridges, floppy disk drives, magnetic tapes, and CD or DVD expansion disk drives.
Pesticide intermediates: Isopropanol can produce fungicides such as rice blast fungus and magmatin, and can be used to prepare insecticides such as chlorpromazine, chlorpyrifos, methylisothiazine, pyrrolidone, fenvalerate, bromoisopropane, and chlorpromazine.
Analytical reagent: isopropanol reagent, used for the determination of barium, calcium, magnesium, nickel, potassium, sodium, and strontium; Perform chromatographic analysis on the reference substance; Esterification analysis of vegetable oil solvents; Determination of potassium content in soil and plants using sodium cobalt nitrite isopropanol method, alkaloid extraction, pesticide analysis, etc.
In many industrial and consumer products, isopropanol (CAS 67-63-0) is used as a low-cost solvent and extractant, and can be used instead of ethanol in many cases.
